Pressure Care Mattress Fabric for Hospital and Long-Term CareBeds

Yi Chun supplies TPU-laminated fabrics for alternating-pressure and static pressure-redistribution mattress applications. Depending on the mattress design and target market, the fabric can be developed for fluid resistance, moisture-vapour transmission, flame-retardant performance, disinfectant resistance, stretch, and other application-specific requirements.

Material construction and available test documentation can be reviewed together so mattress manufacturers can evaluate both performance and compliance requirements during product development.

Key Fabric Requirements for Pressure Care Mattresses

Pressure care mattress fabrics must balance several requirements within the same construction. Depending on whether the material is used for an air cell, top cover, foam mattress, or hybrid system, manufacturers may need to consider:

  • Fluid resistance: Helps prevent liquids from penetrating into the mattress core or air-cell structure.
  • Moisture-vapour transmission: Supports moisture management where breathability is required.
  • Stretch and recovery: Allows the material to accommodate movement and changes in the mattress surface.
  • Cleaning and disinfectant resistance: Helps the material withstand repeated cleaning according to the specified care protocol.
  • Flame-retardant performance: Can be specified according to the requirements of the intended application and target market.
  • Supporting documentation: Material specifications and available test reports can be reviewed according to project requirements.

Yi Chun can work with mattress manufacturers to define the required fabric construction, functional treatments, and test scope according to the intended application.

Testing and Documentation

Testing requirements for pressure care mattress materials vary by product design, target market, and the requirements applied to the finished mattress. Yi Chun can review the required test scope with customers and provide available material specifications and test documentation for the selected construction.

Depending on project requirements, evaluation may include:

  • Flame-retardant performance
  • Hydrostatic pressure and moisture-vapour transmission
  • Antibacterial performance
  • Applicable skin-contact or biocompatibility testing
  • Resistance to specified cleaning and disinfecting agents
  • Abrasion and mechanical performance
  • Restricted-substance or material compliance requirements

Market-specific standards and documentation should be confirmed according to the finished product, intended use, and destination market.

Pressure Care Mattress Applications

  • Alternating-pressure air mattress cells and top covers
  • Static pressure-redistribution foam and hybrid mattresses
  • Hospital bed and ICU mattress covers
  • Home and community care beds
  • Seating cushions and positioning aids for wheelchairs

Working with Yi Chun

Yi Chun has been weaving, coating and laminating technical fabric in Taichung, Taiwan since 1988, and already supplies the medical sector with blood pressure cuff and tourniquet fabric. Pressure care is an extension of work we do every week, not a new line: the same coating lines, the same colour-matching lab, the same batch records.

Mattress programmes run for years, so consistency matters more than a first good sample. We keep master samples and batch records for every approved construction, so a repeat order five seasons later matches the one your notified body signed off.

Frequently asked questions

Our pressure care constructions are engineered to BS 7177 Crib 5 and EN 597-1/2. We supply the current test report with the quotation, and we re-test whenever the base cloth or coating changes.

Yes. The TPU surface is tested against 70% isopropyl alcohol and sodium hypochlorite solution. Tell us the concentration and cycle count your customer's infection-control protocol specifies and we will confirm against that protocol rather than a generic figure.

We test to ISO 10993-5 (cytotoxicity) and ISO 10993-10 (irritation and sensitisation) for fabrics in prolonged skin contact, and supply the reports as part of the compliance pack.

Yes. Cell fabric and top-cover fabric have different jobs, so we quote them as different constructions — 4-way stretch with low surface friction for the cover, higher tensile and weld strength for the cells.

1500M per color. Sampling is available before you commit to a production run.

Discuss Your Pressure Care Mattress Fabric Requirements

Request the medical compliance pack — Crib 5, ISO 10993, ISO 22196 and the full specification sheet, sent as one file. Tell us the mattress type and the market it ships to, and we will send the construction that fits, not a swatch card.
