Pet Product Fabric Built for Claws, Teeth and Cleaning

Pet product fabrics face repeated claw contact, pulling, cleaning and everyday wear. We build around three common problems that can shorten a pet product's usable life: abrasion from claws, tearing at stress points, and odour that becomes difficult to remove.

Start With Where the Product Wears Out

Tearing, abrasion and persistent odour can often be traced back to material decisions made long before the product reaches a customer.

Tearing is a construction question — ripstop or high-tenacity base cloth at the panels that take claw load, and reinforcement where webbing meets fabric. Odour is a finish and cleanability question — a surface that releases soil rather than holding it, and an optional antibacterial treatment for the panels that sit closest to the animal. Fabric construction and finishing can therefore be selected around where the product is most likely to experience wear, contamination or repeated cleaning.

Depending on the product and target market, material options can also include OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified constructions, REACH-related documentation, recycled fabrics and other project-specific requirements.

From Carriers to Pet Beds: Different Products Wear Differently

  • Strollers, carriers and backpacks need to balance abrasion resistance with weight, cleanability and comfort.
  • Beds, mats and crate liners place greater emphasis on repeated cleaning, soil release and surface durability.
  • Harnesses, leads and collar backing concentrate wear around high-stress and repeated-contact areas.
  • Outdoor pet gear may add requirements such as water repellency, weather exposure and colourfastness.

Built to Be Cleaned, Not Just to Resist Wear

Pet beds, carriers, stroller seats and crate liners can be exposed to hair, dirt, moisture and repeated cleaning throughout everyday use. Durability therefore depends not only on resisting abrasion and tearing, but also on how well the fabric can be maintained over time.

For washable or wipe-clean pet products, Yi Chun can develop constructions around water repellency, soil release and repeated cleaning requirements. Where required, antibacterial finishing can also be evaluated as part of the fabric specification.
