Baby & Kids Fabrics Built Around Safety, Comfort and Everyday Use

Baby and children's products can place very different demands on fabric depending on where and how the material is used. A stroller canopy may need to withstand outdoor exposure, while seating and carrier fabrics may require a different balance of durability, cleanability, hand feel and skin-contact considerations. Chemical and product requirements also vary according to the finished product and the market where it will be sold.

Designed Around How Baby Products Are Used

There is no single fabric construction that fits every baby and children's product. The base fabric, coating and finishing need to reflect the conditions the material will face in actual use — from repeated cleaning and abrasion to weather exposure, water repellency or prolonged contact with the user.

For applications intended for babies and young children, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I can also be an important material consideration, as this product class applies to products for babies and has the strictest requirements and limit values among the four OEKO-TEX® product classes.

Yi Chun develops fabrics around these end-use requirements and can incorporate applicable testing and documentation into the development process once the finished product, target market and required specifications are defined.

Baby & Kids Fabric Applications

Requirements Depend on the Product and Market

United States Depending on the finished product and its classification, applicable requirements may include CPSIA limits for substances such as lead and certain phthalates, as well as product-specific testing and certification requirements.

Europe Requirements may include REACH substance restrictions and additional standards depending on the finished product and its intended use. EN 71-3 may be relevant when the finished product falls within the applicable toy requirements.

Material testing Where specified for the project, fabric can also be evaluated for requirements covering formaldehyde, azo dyes, heavy metals and other restricted substances. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I.

Frequently asked questions

Which requirements apply to baby and children's fabrics?

Requirements depend on the finished product, target market and how the fabric is used. Share the product type and destination market, and the applicable material and testing requirements can be identified before development.

Are the reports current, and who holds them?

Reports are issued in Yi Chun's name by an accredited laboratory and re-issued when a construction changes. We supply the report number and issue date so your compliance team can verify it directly.

Can the same fabric be used for a stroller canopy and seat?

Not necessarily. A canopy may place greater emphasis on weather resistance, UV exposure and colourfastness, while seating fabric may require a different balance of hand feel, abrasion resistance, cleanability and skin-contact considerations. The construction should be selected around the specific component and end use.

Tell us what the fabric will be used for. Share the finished product, target market and required performance or compliance specifications, and Yi Chun can recommend a suitable construction for evaluation.
